Stewart became an apprentice CA straight from school and has over 40 years of experience in his field. Having qualified in 1976, he moved to Sierra Leone where he worked for a large international firm of CAs, becoming a partner in 1983 and senior partner of the Sierra Leone firm in 1985. He left Sierra Leone in 1989 and returned to Scotland where he continued in the accountancy profession until 1999, when he was offered the chance to join one of his firm’s clients and in January 2000 he became company secretary and financial controller of iomart Group plc.
Stewart was involved in all financial aspects of iomart Group from the IPO in April 2000, during the dotcom boom, through all the re-organisations, acquisitions and disposals as the group evolved from an ISP to the leading managed hosting and cloud services provider it is now.
In July 2008 Stewart retired from iomart Group, but within a year was back on a part-time basis assisting with due diligence, budgeting and integration of the various acquisitions the Group continues to make as it develops its strategy of expansion through both organic growth and acquisitions.
