The Charity

History

Founded in 2008, Helensburgh Heroes is a young and ambitious Scottish Charity that was created with the specific intent of procuring and managing leisure and arts facilities that will educate, inform and above all inspire.

The Charity takes its name from both its geographical location and in honour of the many men and women with connections to the Helensburgh Area who have made significant contributions to the society in which we live.

The Heroes theme having been chosen as the stories of Helensburgh’s sons and daughters, events and aspirations, connect all of us as individuals to the area, and give us meaning to our past, present and future.

In 2009, the charity organised a ‘Live Aid’ style recording of the David Bowie classic ‘Heroes’ featuring over 100 volunteer singers and musicians from within the local Helensburgh community to promote its aims. The project described as one of the “most inclusive ever undertaken” was nominated for two community awards and even featured on David Bowie’s official website! The extremely professional result can be downloaded from iTunes and all good online music stores. All proceeds go towards to the Charity and will help us build the Heroes Centre.

Helensburgh Heroes is a company limited by guarantee (SC343552) and is registered in Scotland as a Charity (SC040114)
