The Team – Phil Worms

Phil Worms

Phil is currently the director of corporate communications for iomart Group plc, one of Europe’s leading providers of managed hosting, cloud computing and business continuity services.

Having spent 30 years working in the IT industry he is recognised as one of its brightest thinkers by his peers.

Phil has enjoyed a very varied career having started as a Special Events Manager with BT. Phil eventually moved from Special Events into mainstream BT Marketing, where he was responsible for the creation of a face to face and events sales channel.

In 1993, and recognising the emergence of the internet, Phil left BT to create his own online gift delivery business, a venture that resulted in him winning the inaugural Daily Mail UK Ecommerce award. Following the successful sale of the business to a competitor, Phil joined US based Telco VarTec before moving his family to Scotland and a new role with iomart Group to lead the roll out of UK Broadband. During this period, Phil developed the UK’s first broadband content portal, working with content owners such as MTV and the BBC.

Phil has sat on several national and Parliamentary advisory committees discussing issues as wide ranging as the universal provision of broadband access to online child safety initiatives.

He regularly contributes internet and “new media” related features for trade publications and national newspapers, writes an award winning blog, is a board member of eSkills Scotland and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts

Phil is a founding Director of the charity Helensburgh Heroes.
