Professor Emeritus Michael J Baker

Helensburgh resident Professor Michael Baker is widely acknowledged as one of the great marketing innovators.

In 1971, Michael founded the Department of Marketing at the University of Strathclyde and was its Head of Department from inception to 1988.

Michael is a former Chairman of Scottish Business Education Council (SCOTBEC), past Chairman of the Institute of Marketing, and Governor of the CAM Foundation. President of the Academy of Marketing, Founding Dean, Senate of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Visiting Professor, City University Business School, Glasgow Caledonian University, Surrey European Management School, University of Surrey, Monash University, Australia, Nottingham University Business School and is an Honorary Professor, University of Wales, Aberystwyth.

Winner of the Institute of Marketing’s Gold Medal, Michael was also awarded an Honorary Fellowship of the Institute of Marketing in 1988 in recognition of his services and created a Fellow of the Scottish Vocational Educational Council “in recognition of outstanding services to education in Scotland.”

Michael is the author/editor of over 40 books and more than 150 articles and papers, and the founding editor of the Journal of Marketing Management and the Journal of Customer Behaviour. Many of these books and journals have become the standard texts for marketing students and professionals alike.
